I am so close to being done with this project, I can almost taste it! Actually, that would be the cedar dust generated by my sander that I’m tasting….

Well, I’m one step closer to the finish line, folks!

I had to work in Marquette Friday, so I decided that I was going to take my family with me and stay the night in a motel. Before I left, however, I took the liberty to glue together the boards that I needed to complete the one side of the case. I also went to a local hardware store and purchased the hardware that I’m going to need to complete my case.

It wasn’t until I was actually in the hardware store browsing their hardware selection, that I finally decided on what I was going to do as far as the doors were concerned. As it stands right now, there will be three doors on my case: one door to give access to the optical drives, one door to give access to the inside of the computer case, and one door on the opposite side of the case to give access to the drive rack.

Here you can see that I have fastened the lower portion of the side to the frame of the case. You can also see the gap up top. The upper portion will be fastened to the bottom portion with several hinges, allowing it to swing down when I need to remove or add a drive to the drive rack.

Here is another picture of the case. The boards had a little curvature to them, so I had to employ some wood clamps to create some down pressure so that the side would glue flush to the frame of the case.

Here is a picture showing the front of the case. The ends of the boards will not be visible when the case is completed. Not only will the edges of the boards be hidden, by the front panel – yet to built – but I will also sand all the edges to ensure that all corners are flush.
